Rules

  • Games may be played as ususal or timed. Timed games will be approximately 16-20 minutes long (timed games). Teams should keep playing until they hear the whistle. NO TIES ALLOWED?PLAY OUT A FINAL POINT, IF NECESSARY!
  • The league runs rain or shine, however lightning = cancellation
  • Teams should arrange to switch sides throughout the match to accommodate for unfair wind and sun conditions (perhaps every 7-10 total points scored).
  • In 2s, the rules on setting and clean hands are tighter. If there is a great deal of spin on your set or if the ball is held too long, please call it yourself.
  • No open-hand tips are allowed?Blocks count as a touch (only 2 touches left)
  • You CANNOT volley, block, or attack the serve in any way.
  • You CANNOT volley a free ball. You can only attempt to overhand dig (face pass) a \"hard driven\" ball from an attack by the other team. Overall, NEVER volley your team\'s first contact (on a serve or in a rally)!
  • You may volley the ball over the net, BUT ONLY IF YOUR SHOULDERS ARE SQUARED TO THE DIRECTION IN WHICH THE BALL TRAVELS AND/OR LANDS (frontwards or backwards). If the ball drifts or blows over while you are setting your teammate, the ball is still in play.
  • WINNING teams must enter/report scores
  • Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win and 1 point for a loss. Check www.invado.ca for weekly standings.
  • There are no referees, so please handle any disputes with a re-serve. CALL YOUR OWN NET VIOLATIONS AND ?UNDER THE NET? INFRACTIONS! Keep in mind that \"under the net\" violations are only called if the act interfered with a member of the opposing team (2s only) - if not, play on!
  • Teams must keep track of the game score. Please, frequently call out the score to avoid disputes later on.
  • Only players listed on the official registration form and/or our website will be considered as team members. All fill-in players must have waivers filled in prior to their first game. No waivers = ineligible players!
  • Check with the convenor for details on playoff format.
