Rules

NOTE - ALL TIERS in Invado’s YOUTH Beach 4’s leagues will follow INDOOR 6’s RULES.  Beach 2’s rules will only apply to our Youth Beach 2’s leagues.

WEATHER POLICY - We play in rain, delay in lightning, and only cancel the night if all remaining games can't be played (in abbreviated 10-minute time slots), before darkness

We rarely cancel games before we have 'eyes & ears' on location, so please plan to be at the courts in time for your games - EVEN IF THE FORECAST OR WEATHER LOOKS BLEAK!  Because summer storms don't usually last long, our staff report to the courts and will commence setup when/if the weather is safe.  If games are delayed or interrupted by an electrical storm (i.e. visible lightning), then players should wait in a car (not on the sand or under a tree) until an Invado staff member indicates that the night is ready to resume or is being cancelled.  Players/parents are encouraged to follow us on Instagram, 'Like' us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter, in order to find out the status of leagues when the weather is in question, as the night may be cancelled prior to the start of later time slots

Please note, too, that due to the problems caused by moving playoff dates (particularly in the busy summer months), we are unable to make up nights lost to unsafe weather and are unable to offer refunds to players/teams for such occurrences.  We pay our staff and rental fees on cancelled nights, so we appreciate your understanding of the need for this policy.  Of course, if a number of nights are lost in the same league (or the playoffs are affected), we'll do what we can to make up as many games as possible.

LEAGUE POLICIES & RULES

  • Teams may be co-ed or single-gendered...the weekly tiering will ensure that only like-SKILLED teams face off each week
  • In most leagues, teams will move up or down among/between tiers, based on their results from the preceding week, to ensure teams are always evenly matched
  • teams will move up or down among divisions (or tiers) based on how they played in the preceding week (so, parents - please be sure to check your child’s start time online, each week, as it may vary
  • teams are permitted to register with (or add) as many as 7 players, and all players may attend each night (and rotate in)
  • In leagues where parents have registered full teams, the registering parent is able to edit rosters, re-send E-waivers, and correct email addresses (if necessary) in the 'Roster' area of their account at www.invado.ca (prior to the ‘Roster Freeze Date’ specified in the league startup email
  • Individual registrants are advised to search 'spam/bulk' or inboxes for the phrase 'Invado E-waiver' to locate and submit their e-waiver
  • For teams with 5 or more players, substitute players must rotate in for the departing server (once the server has completed a serving turn and upon the team's subsequent rotation)
  • No team may play with more than 4 players on the court
  • If a team is missing players, opponents are NOT required to 'match' their number of players on-court (i.e. teams should never play with fewer than 4 players, even if their opponents are missing players - or we collectively enable more poor attendance)
  •
  • To ensure that 'bad attendance' doesn't negatively & unfairly impact other players, teams missing 2 weeks of play (without sending back-up players) are subject to removal from the league - no refund will be provided

  • All eligible players must have completed a mandatory E-waiver (emailed to all participants at the time of registration)
  • Players who have not completed a mandatory e-waiver (names appear 'greyed-out' online) put their team at risk of forfeiting games played
  • Players may designate back-up players who may ONLY ATTEND WHEN THE REGISTERED PLAYER IS ABSENT
  • All backup players will appear with an asterisk (*) in the list of league rosters at www.invado.ca
  • All playoff-eligible players must be listed on the roster posted at www.invado.ca (in black), and no new players may be added after the 'Roster Freeze Date' (specified in each 'League Start-Up' email)
  • teams play at least 5 timed games each night
  • games are timed at 15 minutes each
  • teams must continue to play until the game-ending whistle/alarm sounds (i.e. scores may exceed the standard beach volleyball limit of 21 points per set)
  • games are self-officiated
  • WINNING teams must report the result after each game (no scores necessary - just the winning team’s name) at the convener's table
  • In order to avoid a forfeit, teams must have at LEAST 2 players in attendance
  • Invado staff will be on hand to handle any disputes or rule clarifications as they arise
  • teams must keep track of the game score through the use of the handy on-net Invado scoreboards provided (ideal for side-changes, too)
  • no ties are allowed - teams must serve out a final, deciding point, should the score be tied at the time of the final whistle/alarm
  • teams should change sides every 7 cumulative points scored (i.e. when the scores are multiples of 7…. or 4-3, 9-5, 12-9, etc.)
  • volleys travelling over the net to the opponent, however, must be 'clean' and without excessive spin (or double contact)
  • players may not contact the net
  • players may cross under the net without penalty, unless contact is made with an opposing player
  • players may not volley, block, or attack the serve in any way
  • where there are no antennae provided, the posts will serve as the outer limits of where the ball may travel in the air
  • Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win and 1 point for a loss. Invado also awards additional points for games played (win or lose) in higher tiers. This is to ensure that a team with a 2-2 record in Tier 1 (the top tier) is not tied in the standings with a team of a similar record in Tier 3 (for example).
  • The standings seen on the site are used to build playoff seedings & tiers and are not necessarily indicative of the tier in which a team may be playing in a given week (weekly results will dictate whether a team moves up or down among the tiers).  For example, a team ranked first in the standings may still find themselves in Tier 2 one week if their record from the preceding week was the worst among the Tier 1 teams.
  • If your team has more wins than another team but is still ranked lower in the overall league standings that means the other team has played more games in higher tiers (and gained those extra points) - again, this is done to ensure that our playoff tiers & seeding are reflective of the actual skill level of each team
  • as mentioned above, players & parents should check start times each week, as they may vary from week to week
  • all teams will qualify for league playoffs, to be held on the final date listed in the league's 'Dates of Play'
  • again, only official roster members, including alternates (as listed at www.invado.ca) may participate in league playoffs
  • playoffs will follow a best 2/3 format, with winning teams (only) moving on
  • champions will be crowned & prizes awarded for the winners of each division
  • Teams must keep track of the game score...frequently call out the score or use the on-net scoreboards provided
  • Playoffs will be conducted in the final week of play and all teams will qualify. The format will follow a best 2 of 3 format (non-timed games) unless stated otherwise
  • No individual is permitted to play for more than one team during league playoffs, unless Invado administration has granted a special exemption
  • Playoff Seeding - playoff seeding will be based on the cumulative standings listed at www.invado.ca.  While teams may move up or down among all the tiers, from week-to-week, playoff seeding will be based on the team's overall standing after 9 weeks of play (playoffs, for most leagues, are conducted in Week #10).  Invado Volleyball reserves the right to alter the size and format of a given tier for playoff night, should the point totals/standings warrant
  • Player Conduct - teams and players are reminded to be respectful of opponents and Invado staff. We organize our leagues (and you join them) to have a good time. Nasty incidents, rudeness, or taunting, etc. ruin the fun for everyone. If there is a serious dispute on the court, please remember: a re-serve fixes everything and leaves the solution in the hands of the 'volleyball gods!'
  • Parents are not permitted to coach from the sidelines at Invado youth leagues and no coaches are provided.  The philosophy behind this is to ensure that players move more aggressively after the ball and are less self-conscious while on-court.  Players learn & improve by watching other players and through more REPS (and are not subbed out or have playing time limited after errors).  It's difficult to watch in the early days, but as each session progresses, players & parents, alike, will see noticeable improvements in this model which is being used more & more to battle two key issues inhibiting young athletes today: hesitation and over-thinking (caused by too much interference and instruction from the sidelines).
  • If there's an issue relating to our procedures, etc., please email Invado administration at leagues@invado.ca
